Microsoft leaked a build on the fast ring for windows insiders where we see a new Windows 10 Start Menu and we see a lot of difference with the current one.
The old menu
The start menu we have now was a bit of a mix between Windows 8 and Windows 7. We had a start menu instead of a startscreen from windows 7 but we had the tiles from Windows 8. One feature called live tiles was introduced in Windows 8. You could see fast news feeds or weather mail etc in your tile in the start menu/screen. The design was really simple. You have a tile and a white icon in it.
A glimpse of the future
Microsoft unintended released this build that had a new start menu. The new menu has no tiles but just shows icons. It would seem that all apps you install will be displayed in the start menu what reminds me a bit of IOS. Also the live tiles are gone. While some people never used them there are other who did and those people will not be happy that they are going away. On the screenshot on the right you see that the flat windows 10 icons don’t look that good in the new layout but the newer fluent design icons are looking good in this start menu. It is unclear when we see this new Start menu but it won’t be before 2020 that’s for sure. There is another option that gives you the current start menu so for who like this start menu can still use it. One thing seems clear by now. We will get a new Windows 10 in the future that will feel like Windows 11. What do you think about all this? Let me know in the comments below.
