After months of testing the new Edge browser is almost ready to be released. Microsoft said that Chromium Edge will come in January 2020. They also released a new logo for the browser. This new logo isn’t an E like the other Microsoft browsers had since the 90’s so this is a huge change.
Chromium Edge will come in January 2020.
On the 15th of January 2020 the new Browser will release to the public. It will be based on Chromium. The same code that is used by Google Chrome, Opera and much more browsers. It is not clear how the browser will come to Windows and when the new Edge will replace the current one. It is likely that at some point you will have the old one but be able to download the new one. The new one looks a lot more like Chrome and less like Edge. No fluent design has been added yet. And features like set aside are missing. Maybe these will come in the future.
No E?
The E logo is gone. Since the 90’s the Internet icon in Windows was an E. This is about the change with the new logo. It looks more like a wave and has blue and green gradient. Maybe Microsoft wants to tell people that Edge is not Internet Explorer. Internet Explorer has been the browser from Microsoft before Edge. It was once a great browser but lately it got a bad reputation.
Windows 7 and Mac
The new Edge will also release for Windows 7 which is odd since the support of Windows 7 will end a day before the release of the new Edge browser. Why Microsoft made the choose to make a Windows 7 version for their new browser is unknown. The new Edge will not only be available for Windows but for Mac OS as well. Internet Explorer has once been on Mac OS but was removed with the release of Safari.
