For almost 15 years blizzard has updated World of Warcraft with 7 expansions. While the newer expansions look good Blizzard has left the old stuff almost unchanged. They did one big change in the Cataclysm Expansion but that was in 2010. Maybe we will get another “Remaster” Expansion that is called World of Warcraft II.
Level Squish
World of Warcraft has 120 levels at the moment. But Blizzard is thinking about a Level Squish in the future. That means that the max level will be reduced. Doing this will make it take longer to level up but you have fewer levels. This means that the spells you get while leveling must also be spread and that means that when you level up you have a big change to get a new spell. And that makes each level worth something. These days half of the levels does’t give you anything. With this idea it will. When you start playing World of Warcraft for the first time now you must go all the way from 1 to 120. This makes people think it will take a long time to reach it. But when the max level is for example 60 it will be more comfortable for new players.
Remaster
Blizzard has always been careful with drastically changing the game. But now they have World of Warcraft Classic it opens the way for them to take a bit more risk. Maybe they can revamp the original game and the first 3 expansions with new Quests and Graphics. They already did this with Arathi Highlands and Darkshore in Battle for Azeroth. They have also made a lot of HD versions of old buildings since Warlords of Dreanor that they can use so they already have some of the assets they need. As for quests that will be a bit more work. The story is a bit of a mess. You start in the third expansion after that you go to the first and the second expansion. Then the third expansion again and from that point up to Battle for Azeroth. If the make new quest they also have the opportunity to fix the timeline.
World of Warcraft II
If blizzard does a level squish and remaster the old content they technically made a new game. And it may be a bit confusing that we have World of Warcraft Classic and World of Warcraft Battle for Azeroth. It would make sense to call the next expansion World of Warcraft II. This will make the game feel like new but you don’t have to start over again. You can just continue with your character in a whole new world.
What do you think? Will World of Warcraft II work like this?
